healthy chocolate chip Cookies - gluten free

It happens to all of us; those days when we are craving something sweet, but at the same time don’t want to take a step back in our progress towards a healthy lifestyle. Fortunately, we don’t have to give up our favorite desserts completely, since there are ways to make them using better, more wholesome ingredients so that we don’t have to regret eating them.

This healthy chocolate chip cookie recipe are not only delicious, but they have only a few ingredients that are nutritious also. We still should eat them in moderation – just because something is more healthy, doesn’t mean it is okay to go crazy.

How do you make healthy chocolate chip cookies using almond flour?

This healthy cookie recipe is just as good as classic chocolate chip cookies and can form a part of your healthy meal plans. Instead of using regular white flour, we will use a combination of almond flour and paleo baking flour, both of which are gluten free. We will also use maple syrup instead of regular sugar, which also makes for a healthier snack.

This easy recipe is part of a series of healthy desserts that we are making on this site. You can find the rest here. We have made healthy brownies, popsicles, and more, so check them out!

To make this great recipe, you will need to gather the following ingredients:

  • 1 Cup of Almond Flour
  • 2 Cups of Paleo Baking Flour (gluten and grain free)
  • 1/2 Cup of Ghee or Coconut Oil (if you use coconut oil, there may be a slight coconut flavor, which a lot of people like)
  • 3/4 Cup of Baking Sodium (this helps to make soft cookies with a more chewy texture)
  • 3/4 Cup of Dark Chocolate Chips
  • 3/4 Tsp of Salt
  • 1/2 Cup of Maple Syrup
  • 1 Tbsp of Vanilla Extract
  • 1/4 Tsp of ground Nutmeg (optional)

To make the cookie dough, mix all of the dry ingredients and wet ingredients in a large mixing bowl and mix until the dough is formed. Now, form little balls with the dough of approximately 1 inch. For this part, you can use a cookie scoop or measuring spoon to get uniform sizes.

Next, flatten each ball slightly with the palm of your hand and put them on a prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees fahrenheit, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and after a couple of minutes put on a wire rack and let cool for approximately 10 minutes before serving.

You will be able to make a couple of batches of these healthy chocolate chip cookies, and of course, you can double the recipe if you want more. Once you try this tasty little cookie, I think you will definitely want to make more.

How can these chocolate chip cookies help me with my anti-inflammatory diet?

I will always recommend to still eat these cookies and other healthy desserts in moderation. It is best to include fresh fruits and vegetables to get the right amount of fiber, vitamins, and minerals for our bodies.

Nevertheless, these cookies can still help and be a part of healthy eating plans, including if you are on an anti-inflammatory diet.

Making small, healthy changes can make a big difference since reducing inflammatory ingredients can help lower your risk for autoimmune diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.

For example, using almond flour, which is a gluten-free flour, in this recipe will provide antioxidants and it is also rich in vitamin e, which helps reduce the risk of cancer, diabetes, strokes, and heart disease. It also is a good source of magnesium and is low in carbs.

Replacing refined sugar like white sugar and brown sugar for natural sweeteners like maple syrup, honey, or coconut sugar will greatly reduce the big jumps in blood glucose and it also can help provide more potassium, magnesium, antioxidants, and zinc.

It is important not to confuse natural sweeteners with “no sugar.” Maple syrup and honey are still sugars, but they don’t have fiber. However, they can still contribute to obesity and other issues if you eat them in excess. The main difference though, is that that are not processed or manmade, and you can find them in nature, which means they have more benefits for our bodies.

These cookies are a great option for the next time you need to take a dessert to a party or other gathering. They can easily satisfy your sweet tooth, even if they do have less sugar. If you don’t tell anyone that these are “healthy,” they probably won’t even know that they are not “regular cookies.” So, go ahead and make the perfect chocolate chip cookie and add it to your cookie jar.
